"A new poll released this morning shows Maine's marriage equality bill in a literal tie with its opponents at 48%/48% with only 4% undecided.
This poll was an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) survey. Pollsters note that many times voters temper their responses on sensitive social issues when actual interviewers are used. Voters fear that they may appear intolerant if they say they don't favor equality, so they tell the interviewer they will vote to support civil rights. When it's automated, they're much more willing to be honest."
