You just GOTTA love that fag-hag Babs!Just two days ago we were all lamenting the death of the Marriage Equality bill when some defecting Democrats put Republicans back in charge of the NEW YORK State Senate. Now, with a former Republican Majority Leader lobbying to turn undecided and no votes into YES for Equality votes, and news that the NEW leadership may be even more eager than the old leadership to get the bill to the floor, New York is on tap to become the first state in which REPUBLICANS garner us Marriage Equality. If that happens, New York makes SEVEN! We're nearing critical mass, folks! Meanwhile, openly gay sponsor of the Equality bill, Senator Tom Duane, is rumored to be considering jumping ship in order to save his bill. If he does this, it MAY garner him a few more votes on the Republican side, but it may also lose him votes from the (dwindling) crew still loyal to usurped Leader Democratic Senator Malcolm Smith. Either way, there is only about a week to get it all sorted out before the end of the legislative session, or else the bill is toast anyway. None of this would have happened, apparently, had a distracted Smith not whipped out his Blackberry and begin rudely ignoring billionaire political meddler Tom Golisano during a meeting. NOTE: Some of you may think its silly when I talk to you about professionalism--returning calls and emails, ignoring phone calls or texts rather than getting distracted when you're with others--this is a perfect example of why these little crumbs of courtesy are SO important! Smith HAD to answer those emails RIGHT then, and now he's out of the job!

A lot of bloggers have interpreted this as Morning Joe Scarborough's shrugging off of Marriage Equality. Instead, I see this more as an ENDORSEMENT of the SOCIALLY PROGRESSIVE view that adults should be legally free to choose their loving committed partners! Most importantly, he recognizes it DOESN'T affect HIS marriage! Maggie Gagmewithaspoon has provided us with so much to love and laugh about over these past... three or four months. I repeat, WHY are we wasting SO MUCH TIME AND ENERGY attacking "Gay, inc." or the big advocacy organizations that work day-in-and-day-out to try to advance the case for our Equality all over this country? If we're going to get on them, get on them for real mistakes--like HRC's decision in '07 to back a transgender-discriminatory ENDA--NOT NITPICK ON STUFF LIKE THIS! People it really is a waste of time and energy, and it devides our community in a VERY nasty way. And it plays right into what the right wants--divide the house AND try and make us look like crazy hippie wackos with no credibility (sorry hippies).
A very REAL conundrum: What do you do with a pregnant, HIV+ illegal immigrant who lied about her status: A. report her, B. give her the help she needs, C. jail her?
