HAPPY HOUR 507 - CHOI OUT ON DADT, HASSELBECK DOES SOMETHING COOL, REPUBLICANS WHO ARE OK WITH A GAY SCOTUS JUSTICE, THE OBAMA SILENCE BREAKS-ON DADT.

Wow... Elizabeth Hasselbeck just won an ounce of respect from me (which, to date, means she has exactly one ounce of respect from me) when she called out Joe The Plumber for his anti-gay remarks!

National:  Lt. Dan Choi, leader of Knights Out West Point grads has been discharged under Don't Ask Don't Tell.  We're not surprised, however, we're still saddened that the military made this move.  He told.  Its true... But he told because he knows he's a fantastic soldier and servant to our nation, and knows that his orientation is NOT an issue!  Why can't the Pentagon see?  Meanwhile, the Victory Fund's Chuck Wolfe isn't the only one discussing the merits of an openly gay SCOTUS Justice to replace Souter.  Even Alabama Republican Jeff Session thinks its alright!  Here are both views.

White House Watch:  Even the New York Times is noticing that there is a decidedly eerie silence coming from the White House over LGBT issues.  Is our president too scared to stand up for Equality right now?  Honestly, why not do it in your first year?  If you really do support Equality (which in my heart of hearts I truly believe the president does) then get these goals met in your first year, meet with the criticism, move the dialog past it, and move on.  Pushing for a repeal of DOMA and DADT is NOT going to harm his chances for a second term.  He has said time and again he believes in this--then please act on it.  The administration's silence on the Marriage Domino Fall is even wierder.  OK, the president doesn't exactly want to say he's HAPPY about Marriage Equality.  So just make a strong statement that you believe that these are great wins for state's rights and the democratic process!  Say SOMETHING!  It looks SO WEIRD that history is happening and that this avalanche gets rolling faster and faster every day, and you say nothing.  HOWEVER, he HAS FINALLY BROKE THE SILENCE ON DON'T ASK DON'T TELL!!!  That's why Judy Shepard thinks he's 'teachable!'

Off the Blotter:  Mike Rogers from the movie OUTrage gets ripped up for bullying on a local news show.  Here's the trailer.  Apparently straight black men will turn gay if gays can get married.  Lady Gaga disagrees:  she says she owes everything to gays!  Remember when Madonna used to remember that?  Celebrity ally Ben Lee gives gays another musical gift:  "Boy With a Barbie," and now he's got it amped up in dance!  Carrie Prejean might have reasons for having such hard feelings toward gays--her parents accused one another of being gay during their acrimonious divorce.  A sneering, disturbing, contemptuous and hypocritical reaction to the National Day of Prayer:  why James Dobson and Rush Limbaugh are despicable people.

HEY #p2!--CALLING ALL PROGRESSIVE ALLIES!

-HEY #p2! (Progressives). We can't do this alone. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans have been fighting for over half a Century to have basic Civil Rights. We have so much to do, and we are such a small group. Without an army of Progressive allies, we can't win. Our rights as American citizens are constantly being compromised, despite life-time service to our nation as good, contributing citizens. We can't wait any longer. We need our Progressive allies to step up and go to bat for us TODAY. We must demand Progressives have got to make LGBT rights a top priority in 2010, or we will keep being put on the back-burner. There will ALWAYS be something more important than LGBT equality affecting America--issues like Health Care Reform and the Economy effect LGBT people too! However, when we are discriminated against under the law every single day, we can't give our all to fixing these problems. We are long overdue to be counted as equal citize...

Howard Dean Supports Marriage Equality in Vermont

The Burlington Free Press revealed that at a Saturday state Democratic Party reception at the Burlington Hilton, Vermont's former Governor Howard Dean encouraged the leaders in his state to pass legislation legalizing Same-Sex Marriage. Dean was the governor back in 2000 when Vermont became the first state in the Union to enact Civil Unions legislation under pressure from the courts. Now they may just be the first state to enact Marriage Equality WITHOUT pressure from the courts. The Current Governor, Jim Douglas has vowed to veto the legislation when it hits his desk, however, he's also indicated that even he doubts the legislators would not have moved the legislation forward if they did not have a Veto-Proof majority. Let's hope this bolsters the cause of equality even more.

In anti-gay attack, AIM falsely asserts "pedophile" Jennings was "teaching 14-year-old boys" about sexual practices | Media Matters for America

In anti-gay attack, AIM falsely asserts "pedophile" Jennings was "teaching 14-year-old boys" about sexual practices | Media Matters for America : "In attacking the media for allegedly insufficient coverage of Obama administration official Kevin Jennings, a blogger for Accuracy in Media, which purports to 'set the record straight on important issues that have received slanted coverage' -- and which has a record of antagonism toward gays -- smeared Jennings as a 'pedophile' and falsely claimed that '[v]ideos have surfaced of Jennings teaching 14-year-old boys the dangerous sexual practice of 'fisting,' and discussing with them the particulars of oral sex.' In fact, Jennings did not conduct that seminar and, in fact, reportedly criticized it when he became aware of its content." AIM is a crock. They're nothing more than Republican mouthpieces.
